Toronto Salsa Festival

Dancing is just as much about personal expression as it is mechanics and technique. And so, when you see two dancers that share not only a technical competence but also an intangible connection that lets each rise to new heights, it becomes possible to appreciate the conversation in movement. A discussion that is happening without words; spontaneous and liberating. There is a freedom and lightness achieved when you are able to freestyle on your own and with your partner... all the while connected through the magic of music and dance.

Caryl Cuizon and Angus Dirnbeck have been dancing together since the spring of 2000. Initially studying and dancing salsa here in Toronto, they quickly found themselves performing with some of the city's top dance troupes and together as a featured couple. Their insatiable appetites to learn soon found them traveling abroad; studying and performing in places such as New York, Montreal, Detroit, Puerto Rico, Texas and Chicago. Caryl and Angus have enjoyed the pleasure of sharing the stage at diverse venues; from intimate corporate events to premiere events like the annual Fashion Cares Evening Gala.

In June of 2005, they founded iFreeStyle.ca - an urban infused Latin dance company specializing in Salsa On2. Aside from introducing absolute beginners to the wonderful world of Salsa dancing they have enjoyed much success (and satisfaction) in helping On1 dancers transfer what they already know to the On2 paradigm. To further promote the growth of the On2 community in Toronto, they created the TORON2 line of dance gear. At the end of 2006, they formed a Semi-Professional Dance Team and are excited about sharing the talents of this group beginning in 2007!

In forming iFreeStyle.ca they are eager to share what they can; hoping to ignite/reinforce in others the same passion for this form of music and dance that has given them the opportunity to express themselves with more than words alone. An art form that has shown them the joy and freedom that results when you connect with the music and simply freestyle.
